Heather Durkin

Heather joined Holly House in August 2023. She is originally from the USA, but relocated to the UK in 2019. 

Heather obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology in 2015 from William Paterson University and a Master of Science in Biology from Clemson University in 2019. In 2023, Heather graduated from the Royal Veterinary College. 

Having spent several years working as a veterinary nurse in the USA, Heather is experienced with emergency & critical care, companion animal general practice, as well as avian medicine. Heather also spent a few years teaching high school Biology and Chemistry in the USA. She values this experience, as it helped her to develop her communication and public speaking skills, along with the opportunity to serve as a mentor.

Heather is passionate about internal medicine, with a special interest in endocrinology and nephrology. Heather presented research from her thesis at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress in March 2023 and is keen to continue her research. 

Outside of work, Heather enjoys traveling, walks in the countryside, cooking, and gardening. 

Heather currently shares her home with a Labrador Retriever (Basil) and 5 cats.
