Pablo's Story

Pablo's Story

Pablo is a 4 year old cat. He went missing for a few days and made his way home very lame. We suspect he was involved in a RTA. He was fairly stable on arrival so didn't need much in the way of emergency treatment. X-rays were taken of his chest, abdomen, back, and pelvis.

He was found to have an oblique fracture of his right ilial shaft. Also, his left sacroiliac joint was displaced.

As this could result in a narrowed pelvic canal and is part of the pelvis transferring weight from his leg up to his back, this was best treated with internal fixation. Stabilising such fractures also significantly reduces pain as fracture ends are held in place.

He had 2 screws and a pin placed across the fracture. This also resulted in the left side of his pelvis being pulled back into a better position. His exercise was restricted for 8 weeks.

He has since made a good recovery and his fracture has healed. The pin became loose but was easily removed and the remaining screws can be left. We expect him to do well now.
